This Article is written to glorify how our Parama Gurudeva was handpicked by MahaKala Bhairava (BamaKhyapa Gurudeva) and raised to the state of the living Smashana Bhairava of the Tarapith.
* Part 1 - Revival of the Dead
The Cremation ground is a place of transition and dissolution of the physical body. The Bhairava in the Smashana associated with death, transformation, and liberation is none other than Smashana Bhairava. He is the guardian of the souls that have dissolved in the Agni Chitha of the Smashana.
Guru Shyama Khyapa a revered Kali Sadhaka, goes on a quest to attain Maa Tara in Tarapith. The very search of Maa unbeknownst at that time lead him to his Gurudeva who is none other than the Sakshat Avatara of MahaKala Bhairava, our Parameshti Gurudeva Sri BamaKhyapa. His presence in Tarapith even today is experienced by many advanced and Gupta Sadhakas who revere him as MahaKala Bhairava.
Guru ShyamaKhyapa is a Gupta Sadhka who has done countless number of miracles that are beyond the comprehension of a normal human mind. He has selflessly revived and will revive millions of souls so that they walk towards Liberation while in Maa’s Lap.
As the Living Smashana Bhairava, he leads the souls and has complete authority over them. This love resembles that of a father or a Guru who takes care of them so that they don’t feel lost.
They may be souls which have departed the physical body or orphaned without Guru Tattwa in a physical body or souls that need reincarnation to move towards spiritual Liberation. In all of these instances, our Parama Guru ShyamaKhyapa presents himself as the Smashana Bhairava, the ever compassionate Devata, who selflessly leads an Atma as a Guru in the physical or spiritual realms.
Revival of the Dead
Many decades ago, Guru ShyamaKhyapa known to be always in the Sadhana of Maa Tara in Tarapith would talk long walks while in trance. This was his form of Tapasya wherein he was in deep Dhyana of Maa even though he was walking. On one such meditative occasion, he witnessed a young man lying dead on the cremation ground.
Guru knew the boy since he used to eat the mud of Tarapith since he was diagnosed with some form of cancer. Guru quickly bathed the man and started to perform Shav Sadana. This eventually led the Atma of the man to return to the body. The selfless act of Guru ShyamaKhyapa was even questioned by the dead young man’s Atma but Gurudev had only a pure intention to revive the Shakti within the dead young man since he was capable of helping through his Siddhi.
This shows that Guru ShyamaKhyapa who even sacrificed his Sankalpa and Prana Shakti to revive the dead young man, was even detached from the fruits of his own sankalpa. This incident opened the doorway towards attaining his own Guru.
The Atma of the man revealed to Guru ShyamaKhyapa that he was to seek for Sri Guru BamaKhyapa, by doing only his Sadhana instead of the Maa Tara.
We can clearly make out how this particular moment of Guru resembles to that of the guardian of a Smashana, the Smashana Bhairava. Eventually, it lead him to attain the state of Kashi and seek Mantra Deeksha from Sakshat MahaKala Bhairava, the TaraPutra Sri Gurudeva BamaKhyama.
